Noblesville Indiana May 3 1923 a Adams township delegation requested construction of a cement road from California street in Sheridan west to the Boone county line under the three mile road law with Adams township bearing costs. The commissioners promised consideration at a special meeting next Thursday or at the opening Monday of the regular session.

Home in Colored Settlement Burns Out of Control
Ira Rice and his family escaped a deadly blaze that destroyed their two story home in the Roberts farm area of the colored settlement north east of here. Mrs Rice woke the family around ten o clock as the roof began to cave in. The origin is unknown though an insurance adjustor suspects lightning. The Hamilton County Mutual company partially covered the damage.

Town offices reported a successful clean up with many homes possessing one or more litter boxes on their lawns. Residents used drays and drives to remove rubbish from early morning until late at night showcasing town effort and hygiene improvements.

Common School Closed Tuesday After Eight Month Term
Sheridan common school grades closed Tuesday after an eight month term with two lost days at Thanksgiving. The high school makeup completed on two Saturdays and closed last week. Boxley school also closed early this week with Baccalaureate services last Sunday night. Commencement Thursday night had eighteen graduates led by Ray DeVaney and Nellie Goff among others. a Dutler college man gave the class address.

Old Findlers Stage Contest Evening Fiddle Event
An old fiddlers contest was staged Tuesday evening in the Boxley school building. The crowd enjoyed tunes like Turkey in the Straw and The Irish Washerwoman. Participants included Alfred Robbins Crem Greathouse Walter Creek Archie Wilson George Jones George Orbaugh and Charles Copeland. Mrs. Carrie Howard accompanied at the piano. Only three played violins and the music continued until ten o clock with no prizes awarded.

Ged resident of Hortonville dies
Earl, a Ged resident of Hortonville, died Sunday morning at his home after a brief illness. He was the grandfather of Mrs. Fletcher Cottingham of Sheridan and had just returned from a visit with her. Death was attributed to advanced age. Survived by widow, one son Homer Earl of Indianapolis and two stepchildren Mrs. Will Hinshaw of Westfield and Frank Ressler. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Hortonville M E church with Rev. Mills officiating.

Gas shortage foils car theft near church
A Ford owned by Conrad McMath was stolen while the owners attended church. The vehicle was found on Fanning Street near the John Jack residence after a search began at service end. Thieves abandoned the attempt due to a gas shortage.

Boxley Boys Hurt in School Ride Accident
Ten Boxleytown area youths riding home from school lost control of a car owned by George Goodnight. A boy driving, son of Omer Wiles, crashed into an electric pole injuring Morris Smith who suffers a leg sprain and knee injury, and others with head cuts and bruises. Smith was hospitalized in Indianapolis. Two boys escaped uninjured.

Noblesville Wins County Track Meet in Spring Heights
Noblesville captured first in the fifteenth annual county track meet held last Friday with Carmel second Sheridan third and Fishers fourth. A record crowd of about 700 witnessed multiple new Hamilton County marks including mile run pole vault 44 yard dash and mile relay. Akers Wade of Carmel shared high-point honors with 12 points each, Mills of Noblesville had 11.
