Grace C. Jeffries notes recruitment of Miss Nettie Tingle for summer assistance at Blocks, inviting customers to visit and place orders. The Epworth League holds a regular meeting on Friday April 4 with a touring program, while the Christian Sunday School announces Easter services at 9 20 tomorrow morning.
Rev Geo Bragg of Windfall will preach at Poplar Church Sunday at 10 o clock and again Sunday night March 30. All are invited. A well attended audience welcomed Mrs Estella Lovelle Idmounds at the Opera House Tuesday evening. Mrs Edmonds displayed strong humor and pathos in recitation. Mrs F W Kercheval of Deming grew ill at church Sunday and remains seriously ill. Dr Burkhart of Indianapolis judged the case dangerous. I have secured a experienced milliner trim to satisfy customers.
Township central committee adopts county primary rules for township election on April 5. Sheridan conducts a single polling place 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Boxley Bakers Corner same as county. Township council allows multiple names. Democrats to elect one member. top two receive nominations. Nominations deadline noon April 4.
A telegraph from Rawlings Wyoming reports discharged soldier Dalton Stephens was accidentally killed on the railroad there. No details are given. it is believed he was returning home after three years in the Philippines. He had been writing to his father and sending money home, but no word in weeks.
About seven o clock Wednesday morning the Dragon farm house occupied by Jim McKinzie and family burned to the ground with the parents away. Neighbors pulled the sleeping children from a window on a feather bed as the building fell. Only the bed was saved. Supposed cause is a defective chimney. Separately, the trial of Sam and Harry Griffin on disbarment charges continues in Circuit Court with Judge Davis and Ralphane prosecuting and Shirts Dertig and Attyetecham defending. many Sheridan witnesses present.
Ed Drake of Sheridan, a three year veteran in the Philippines, receives a promotion to sergeant in his heavy artillery unit. Earl Thompson of Frankfort visited Sheridan on Wednesday. Thompson recently left the Linden drug business and seeks a new location. Jacob Pritsch and family hosted guests including J KK Humes of Cutler Indiana and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Pritsch and Mrs. Kate Black of Frankfort.
The VanCamp Packing Co has closed a contract to grow 300 acres of tomatoes in the area and will accept smaller contracts of one acre or more by April 5. Seed and growing instructions are available at Woods & Vickery office. Bell No 1 Both Phones New No 4.
Mrs. Lydia Cole and Miss Laura Swopp of Elizaville spent Sunday with Mrs. H J Newby and Miss Susie Farrow. The gathering centered on social visits and shared conversation.
The 1902 graduating class enjoyed a party at Miss Lemon Steffey's home. Bernard Walker, from Westfield schools, attended as a reviewer for college. A vote awarded prizes for prettiest and homeliest pictures, and Miss Steffey was praised as an ideal entertainer.
The County Council met in special session with all members present except Cox and Mc Gill. It approved 600 for the defense of William Federa in the John H E Seay murder case and 125 for a fuller Williams shortage report, while a 500 request for the Griffin disbarment case faced hesitation pending judge Neal's explanation. The 600 may also fund defense for Clarence De Luce and Guinea Smith in an arson case. Dates for disputed Williams funds remain unsettled to determine bondsmen liability.
The Indianapolis Stock Journal notes a strong consignment from Geo Lanham of Sheridan featuring draft horses. Four big gray drafts started at 600 and sold to J W Baker of Buffalo for 810. Lanham earned 227.50 from a single horse and nine head averaged over 155.
Gus Clements and Hovey Wheeler left Sheridan this week for Washington seeking future homes. Gus travels to Seattle while Hovey heads further south in the state. The community wishes them success in their new ventures and fortunes.
Jim Johns of Tipton the sewer man arrives in town this week with a crew at work and pushing the project as fast as possible.
The Holiness hall holds a quarterly meeting on March 29 and 30 with Presiding Elder A. D. Buck expected to attend. W. W. Parr and C. M. Parr visited Dr. Emory Parr in Fortville and attended the dedication of the new Methodist church there.
