The Board of Review fixed June 22 to 25 to assess corporations and June 30 for banks and trust companies with objections heard July 1 to 6. Mortgage exemption work continues stalled due to joint-title signatures. The docket includes divorce filings and circuit court cases in Gray and Indianapolis, plus property disputes and poor farm bids.
Charles Thistlethwaite slipped on poor light while helping search the basement for garden seeds and broke two ribs. He remains bedridden but is recovering. The report mentions Indianapolis aeroplane races drawing locals, with the Buyers entertainment by the Indianapolis Trade Association offering free tickets to amusements.
Tuesday marked flag day with limited observance in town. Betsy Ross credited with creating the first flag. At the G A R hall the W R C hosted an event featuring Chas Martin welcome, H B Johnson address, a duet by Mr and Mrs F E Williamson, A C Scott violin solo, and Harry Foster song. Mrs J H Cox shared notes from the State Encampment and presented a pennant souvenir. Refreshments followed.
J. M. Applegate Ella Smith Ruth Harris Eva Davis Stalia Cox and Gladys Smith represented the Logansport district at the Epworth League Convention in Akron Tuesday and Wednesday. The party toured Winona Lake and planned to return home today with aims to host the 1911 meeting. On June 14 Jacob Rader celebrated a golden wedding at his west of town home with many relatives attending. A bountiful noon dinner followed and gifts were received. News office and plant will move to the building’s first floor for easier access.
The Advisory Board met Saturday at Trustee Scott’s office and awarded the school house project three and a half miles north of town to Richard Cox for 2525 dollars. Only three bids were received and construction will be finished in time for school this fall. John Thistlethwaite of Washington La is visiting relatives here.
A trio of community women died within days in Arcadia and nearby communities. Mrs. W Bauch aged 21 died of consumption. funeral at home with Rev Shimmel, interment Little Eagle Cemetery. Mrs. William Cornell aged 60 died after pneumonia and dropsy. funeral Saturday with Rev Clem Ricketts, burial Spencer Cemetery. Mrs J A Harvey died Monday at 65 after months of ill health. funeral at Spicewood church with Rev John Reagan, burial nearby.
Opal Thurman and Carrie Singleton, both about 15, were struck by a bolt of lightning while seated on a bench beside a cedar tree at the William Singleton home northwest of town. Thurman was burned on the side and Singleton on the head and back. injuries described as severe with shock, exact extent unknown. The incident occurred about 3 PM under a near clear sky with light clouds and slight rain shortly after.
Mrs. Wm. Wolf drew the eighth dinner set on Saturday near town at the Stanley and Beauchamp store. The event attracted a large crowd and many participants from outside the town.
The State versus Henry Yarling in Tipton Circuit Court ended with a jury of Clinton County farmers acquitting the defendant after twenty six ballots. Judge Nash presided, and the verdict came shortly after nine o clock Saturday.
