He had served as Hamilton county sheriff and was a former singing teacher. Funeral at Lamong Friends church, Crown Land cemetery Noblesville. Survived by wife two sons Dr Grant Newcomer of Elwood Alva of Logansport and three daughters Mrs Emmett Walker Mrs C M Walker and Miss Effie. Age seventy.

Commissioners appoint Briles to fill vacant county post
At a Tuesday meeting Commissioners Aaron Washington and C B Jones and Auditor W O Horton, John Briles of Washington township was named to fill the unexpired term of John Harvey, who died. Briles, a Democratic nominee, may or may not accept. if he does, he will meet the board next Monday.
