Mrs. Oran D C Smith aged eighty four died from injuries after slipping on a stair at her daughter’s home in Indianapolis. She had prior infirmities and blindness and was visiting Mrs. Pearson at 1817 North Delaware Street. Funeral plans include services at Sheridan and potential venue changes to Arza Smith’s residence.
The Sheridan base ball team debuted their new uniforms with a 20 to 3 win over nearby towns last Saturday. Sunday they lost to Horton 23 to 16 in a high scoring match.
The notice asks non resident subscribers overdue a year or more to remit promptly. It warns that six Sheridan subscribers in delinquency will be visited personally to collect money owed. It thanks timely payers of the past two years and urges immediate action.
L. 8 Kercheval and wife travel to Brazil after learning that Harold Kercheval, the couple’s son, was seriously hurt the day before by a fall from their veranda. His shoulder was broken and he was injured.
An ice cream festival and social will be held Friday evening August 2 at the United Brethren church in Terhune to benefit the church. Instrumental and vocal music will be provided and everyone is invited.
Dr Parr presiding Wilder will preach at the M E Church Friday evening July 26. Quarterly conference immediately follows.
J R Christian bids farewell to friends in Noblesville and heads to Oklahoma City to stake land claims at opening of government land. He will act for Dr A R Tucker and recruit others including Daniel Christian and Ernest Christian to file for themselves and associates. He plans a new career in real estate in El Reno region.
Wednesday town officials moved the newly purchased safe to the Council Chamber over Osborn's drug store. Ed Fear led the operation with Jess Lovell and other men, building a rope platform from the News office stair to the dray. The rope heated as they slowly lowered the 2000 pound safe, leaving the workers with sore hands. Fear vowed not to try such a move again.
Mrs. Vic Brandon and daughter Mrs. Docie Kirkman visited with their families in Westfield as guests of H. V. Laughner and relatives on Sunday.
County Surveyor and city engineer began the sewer survey Tuesday with the main line staked out. Elmer Underwood ordered the party off the farm, tension grows over the disputed parcel while survey continues toward east drainage and the corporation line.
The Condensed Milk Factory opened on a limited scale last week but limited by water supply. A ten inch well contract was signed and drilling began Monday. Depth may reach 180 feet to secure water. Daily milk intake already about 6000 pounds.
Catalogues completed this week reveal a healthy condition in township schools. Trustee Pettijolln, aided by instructors, aims to keep schools from stepping backward. The township high school offers two four year courses Latin and English Science.
Jacob Waller was guiding a cow across a road when the animal bolted. He was thrown against a telegraph pole, cutting a deep gash near the left temple, breaking a cheekbone, and badly bruised. He had been in poor health recently. he is resting easily at last report.
The region endures dry weather with limited impact so far on crops. Farmers say timely rain could prevent major corn damage, and Hick's forecast suggests August will likely not bring a general break in the drought.
Mrs Barbara Timmons of Cicero was the guest of Henry Timmons Jr and his family last Thursday.
