Town Board Meeting Delivers Ordinance on Peddler Licenses

The town board met with all members present and approved a 34.14 claim for costs in the Todd Injunction suit. A new ordinance fixes peddler licenses at 1 per day and pool table licenses at 60 per year for the first table and 25 per year for each additional table. A California Street improvement petition was sent back for more signatures. Attorney Geo Gifford urged payment on J B Johns contractor sewer extras totaling 1188, with a hearing scheduled next Monday afternoon.

Thieves Ride Off With Hay Mare Then Wagon Near Noblesville

Two men stole a fine hay mare and a top buggy from WA obruson near Seventh street and Lafayette road on Friday night. They then swapped the wagon for a new horse at Thistlethwaite’s farm and headed toward Noblesville. A Saturday search traced the trail into river bottoms. a $30 reward was posted and authorities in Ohio Kentucky and Illinois were alerted. The stolen horse and buggy were recovered Wednesday in Henry County, with no clear suspect identified. Separately a drilling strike at Thistlethwaite smith well produced gas but paid prospects remain uncertain.

Serious Mistake as Brother Shoots Brother Over Chicken Thief

Otto Clark accidentally shot his brother Scott Clark while attempting to stop a chicken theft at a rural home near town. Scott was wounded by two bullets and is recovering. the incident occurred after plans to visit the river and spend time away overnight.

Farmer George Tweedy Struck by Northbound Train

Between 9 and 10 am last Monday near Second Street a horse and buggy driven by farmer Geo Tweedy were hit by a northbound extra train. The horse was killed. Tweedy escaped injury and could not recall the moment of impact. The train halted quickly and the mare’s value was to be appraised by the conductor and sexton.

Sheridan selects Abraham Bowers as new superintendent

The Sheridan School Board accepted the resignation of W. S. King and elected Abraham Bowers of Colfax Ind as the new superintendent. Bowers, a Chicago University graduate, previously led Colfax Schools and was reelected for the coming year. He plans to move to Sheridan after securing a house.
