Noblesville Ind July 18 The Board of Review increased land value in Adams township by five percent while reducing improvements by twenty percent. County wide averages show land and improvement values per acre around forty two dollars with Noblesville township notably higher at forty nine dollars due to large factory assessments nearby.
The Knights of Pythias will stage an all day jubilee meeting next month in Compton's park to celebrate wiping out lodge debt. The program includes a state orator, music by pand, Glee Club and Quartettes, a baseball game between two K of P teams, and drill by uniform rank units. Admission is free and a large crowd is expected.
Mayor Wilson issues an ultimatum to curb law violations with focus on Sabbath observance. Last Sunday the city was shut down as smokers and drinkers without Saturday supplies faced closure or travel to Cicero. Subsequent proclamations target Sunday sales to curb business activity.
Sheridan residents note a brilliant southern sky as Mars approaches opposition. The planet, Earth’s neighbor, rises in the east at sunset and offers a chance to study its topography and atmosphere. Mars was in opposition July 6 and reached nearest point around midnight July 13, at about 40 million miles from Earth.
A small gasoline shortage hit Sheridan Monday morning as cars out of service due to rain left pumps empty. Demand surged with Sunday’s favorable weather and scarce supply, until a Westfield wagon arrived around noon to relieve the shortage.
G. H. Palmer is erecting a tall iron and concrete water tower behind his planing mill. The new tank replaces an older wooden structure once built by O. K. Palmer and represents a significant improvement in foundation and framing.
A replevin suit in Squire Moore's court, brought by Billy Fisher of Indianapolis against R. M Pettijohn over $50 merchandise bought by Ed Richardson, was decided in Pettijohn's favor with the defendant released from costs. Goods were delivered in good faith to Pettijohn, an innocent purchaser, with Ralph Pearson as attorney.
Monday night council explained the Blake and Seventh Street assessments, property owners accepted the plan and left satisfied. The alley assessment was approved. G H Palmer received a permit to move a residence on Georgia Street to a vacant east Sixth Street lot. Bills paid included labor, legal fees, printing, salaries, supplies, coal, and foundry charges.
S A Royster long time Monon local agent was transferred to the Sheridan office with a salary raise. W L Keene replaces him at Westfield. Keene formerly ran Fair Oaks station and is well regarded. Royster to move family to Sheridan. Keene to occupy his Westfield home. John Merchent, former Westfield agent, 24 years with the company, 17 in Sheridan, considers next steps.
The Kercheval family announces the ninth reunion to be held at the grave of John S Kercheval on August 22 with committees named for invitation arrangement reception and program. Regular meetings have been held here except 1900 when it met with Lewis S Kercheval.
