Noblesville county swaps surveyor as bonds ease
Noblesville Indiana July 12 1917 at a special county session J Shannon was named county surveyor to replace E Baker who resigned. The $5000 bond was approved and he took office to serve the unexpired term ending January 1 1919. The board awarded Walter Johnson road contract in Washington township to T T Bray for 4653 the only bid.

Young Man Arrested as a Deserter
Paul Barrett son of John Barrett of Boxleytown was arrested early Monday by Sheriff Waddell on desertion from the army. He enlisted last January and was sent to Fort Bliss Texas where he reportedly deserted in March. He went to Nebraska then returned home to visit. Washington authorities have been notified and he will be held pending word.

Weather favorable for most crops with frost and flood impacts
The month brought favorable weather for crops except fruit. Wheat oats and grass profited while a June 16 frost damaged some garden crops. Corn acreage set a state record despite 150000 flooded acres in white and wabash river bottoms, with about 80 percent replanted and expected solid recovery. Corner Stone Laid For New Methodist Church
On Sunday afternoon July 8 the corner stone of the Methodist Episcopal church under construction here was laid. Rev. Riley led services at 2 45 and the sermon by Dr W M Nelson of Indianapolis urged loyalty and unity behind the President. A sealed box of historical church materials was placed in the stone. The brick work is done and the roof partly on as the church nears completion, praised as a future civic and religious landmark.

Public dairy cattle sale draws modest prices
Twenty four head of dairy cattle were sold Saturday afternoon at public sale for an average little over 75 dollars. Most cows with calves at side averaged low due to poor condition. Fred Hoffman of near Eliaville bought eight cattle, the largest single purchase.

Mrs Elizabeth Wiles widow of James Wiles known locally as Peter Wiles died at her home north of Terhune Friday at age 74 of acute heart disease. Funeral was held at Lookout church Monday with Rev Munsel of Tinton presiding. Interment followed at Bronson. A year earlier her husband James Wiles was laid to rest.

81-Year-Old Woman Mary E. Kincaid Dies at Boxley
Mary E. Kincaid of Boxley died at her home Friday from chronic enterocolitis. She was 81 and had long illness. Funeral services were Sunday at Boxley Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Burt, with burial in Boxley Cemetery.
