Heat baking city as storms bring lightning and rain
Heat records shattered by a sunny morning give way to a dark westward storm. Lightning struck the Campbell Poultry house with minor damage as several workers were splintered by debris. Streets flood, sewers backfire, and hail damages corn and wheat north of town. Georgia Street floods past Fifth and Sixth.

Lightning Damages Town Elevator and Crops
A severe Tuesday night storm struck Joliesville area with heavy rain and a lightning strike caused minor damage to the Smith & Co. elevator. Two of John Crew’s mares were killed by a lightning fire at the O. N. Boyd farm two miles northeast, and a bolt entered the home of W. S. McMurtry four miles north, causing a shock and minor property damage.

Falling Roof Injures Four at Kempton Canning Plant
Four men were injured Monday when a roof collapsed at the Kempton Canning Company’s new building. William Tunis sustained serious head and back injuries and remains in critical condition. William Longfellow suffered a broken wrist and back injuries. The fourth worker, listed as Gialte d Sylvester Rue, also sustained injuries.

Red Men Triumph In Wet Fourth Of July Game In Sheridan
Independence Day in Sheridan featured subdued business and lively activity at Compton’s park with firework sales and crowded streets. In a rain softened field the Red Men beat the Knights 10 to 8 in nine innings as Osborn Jessup and Edwards Jones led the batteries and the crowd awaited the harvest climactic rematch after harvest.

The Board met Monday to explain the Georgia street assessment roll. Members approved the formalities needed to raise 3500 dollars for a heating system at the Second ward school building.

Township board rejects new district 3 school building
The Township Advisory Board at a call session Tuesday voted against erecting a new school in district No 3. The current building, about 35 years old, may be repaired at low cost or pupils will be sent to Boxley schools. Jesse Moreland will join Advance Consolidated Schools as high school principal Latin instructor and will teach Eighth year work. A modern 12 room steam heated ventilated school costing 25000 dollars is being built for his new assignment.
