Two Sheridan Boys Taken Into Custody

Marshal Fisher arrested Wilbur King and George Davis in Sheridan on a warrant from Boone county. They were jailed in Lebanon after pleading not guilty at a Friday hearing. King posted 500 bond. Davis could not. They allegedly entered Clyde Cox’s residence west of Terhune and stole about 11 dollars while using Davis’s horse and wagon. Davis, 17, had no prior trouble. King, 22, has prior legal issues.

Sheridan Fourth of July Fire Damages Old Opera House Block

A large Sheridan crowd witnessed fireworks ending with a sky rocket igniting the northwest corner of the old Opera House block. Firefighters contained the blaze with south winds aiding. a seven year old was slightly hurt by a falling rocket and several near misses were noted. The town board may consider banning such displays within the corporate limits after the incident.

Dairy Picnic Preparations Underway at Compton's Park

Arrangements for the large dairy picnic on August 18 are being made. Cattle stalls for fifty head and other buildings are being erected. A water well is being drilled to ensure ample drinking water. Several parties have arranged for booths and concessions.

Last Rites for Mrs. Guy D. Clements in Sheridan

The body of Mrs. Guy D. Clements formerly Emma McEwen arrived in Sheridan from Edinburg Indiana for burial. Funeral services were held at the M E Church. Cause of death not known. Survivors include her husband Mr Clements, his parents and five children.

Former Jolietville Doctor Attempts Death by Drowning

Dr. Thomas O. Redden aged fifty four and a resident of Indianapolis formerly practiced in Jolietville jumped into a cistern behind his Broad way home Saturday afternoon. He was held up by his wife and a neighbor until a man freed him. He had been ill for several weeks.

John and Robert Bush claim a new touring record driving a Buick from Winchester to Sheridan in 20 hours covering 456 miles. They faced bad roads and no stops with under twenty gallons of gas used. The trip began 5 30 Friday morning and ended 2 00 Saturday morning.

Prominent farmer Lewis S. Kercheval dies at 77

Death due to heart trouble ended the life of Lewis S. Kercheval early Saturday at his home northeast of Sheridan. He was 77, a veteran farmer and former county commissioner who served in the Civil War as color sergeant of the 57th Indiana Infantry. Survived by five children and wife Nellie, he was active in politics, G A R and Masonic orders. Funeral Monday at 3 p.m. with burial Crown View cemetery. Born August 5 1842 in Butler County Ohio, he married September 20 1866.
