One Killed One Hurt In Wreck Near Poplar Church
A collision with passenger train No 18 at a railroad crossing west of town killed Jesse Timmons about 25 and seriously injured Miss Fannie Cox on Wednesday night. They had just left Miss Cox’s parents and were en route to Terhune when a gale and a storm front muffled sound and vision. He suffered a broken neck and crushed skull while she required twenty five stitches and internal injuries. The tragedy occurred about 240 feet from the crossing as the couple attempted to regain their road after the buggy veered onto the tracks. The train halted, Miss Cox was cared for at home, and Timmons was taken to his parents’ house for funeral preparations. Timmons was active in the Red Men and Haymakers lodges.
