Harry Ridgeway, junior at the south school, fell during a high jump drill Thursday afternoon. He underwent a surgical operation at St. Vincent's Hospital in Indianapolis Friday and is expected to resume studies in about three weeks. He is the 19 year old son of Mr and Mrs S M Ridgeway, north of Sheridan.
E A Dickey attended the Noblesville township assessors meeting on Friday to discuss the real estate assessment scheduled for this spring.
Dr Hurty warns farmers that labeling maple syrup as pure is illegal if any artificial coloring sugar or molasses is present. The law requires exact labeling and forbids implying purity when additives are used. Dealers who mix brown sugar cane sugar or glucose must clearly state the adulterants on the label.
Dr. H. E. Davenport's illness improves after ten days, with hope for recovery. His daughter Celia arrives from Florida. Reported sickness touches F. G. Albert Holmes Wm B Laughlin and Charley Knight selected by Uncle Sam to aid in weighing the mails in the central states. The assignment lasts ninety to one hundred twenty days at three dollars per day. Holmes and Knight run Louisville to Chicago while Laughlin travels Cincinnati to Chicago on the Monon. They reported to duty in Louisville and Cincinnati and are at work. Congress weighs potential $4 million cut for this service amid railroad lobby opposition.
A fire scare erupted Friday evening at D F Hutchens Clothing Store when a lamp lit by escaping gasoline ignited due to a charged atmosphere. Clerks quickly smothered the blaze with clothing, damaging only the clothing and a trunk, but it highlighted the danger of burning gasoline in a shop.
A. C. Pearson used News advertising to sell or trade his east Fifth Street home. By ten Monday morning a deal closed with Wm. Robbins moving to his new home soon. Robbins also takes part of Pearson's south Ohio property. Pearson will occupy the west Fourth Street property bought from Foster of Michigan.
Ted Johnson, graduate of Sheridan H S 1905, wins the twenty yard dash twenty five yard high and low hurdles and the relay in the dual meet between Indiana University and Washburn College at Bloomington. His brother Harry, a freshman, is noted as a potential competitor but barred from the meet. Local high school students have produced many recent athletics winners for IU in football and track.
Local business leaders press to alter the railroad schedule to Sheridan. Current two daily trains force long stays or all day trips. Proposes noon southbound and around 11 PM return to improve service for theatregoers and residents. Night trains now stop here but changes have not occurred.
Mr and Mrs Geo Symons were called to Milwaukee Saturday evening due to the illness of one of their grandchildren.
E. H. Thompson sold his residence on Georgia street to Mrs Henry Haughey for 1015 dollars. Possession is to be given immediately and the couple will move to Covington Indiana where Mr Thompson has employment. The deal was arranged through the E E Newby Real Estate Company.
