A fresh small pox case is reported south of Cicero toward Noblesville. Doctors in Cicero have refused to treat the patients, and the County Board of Health struggles to secure physicians. Officials deny Noblesville cases as false claims from earlier in the week.
W D Sample sells his south town farm and enters the mercantile trade in Sheridan. He buys a half interest in J N Patisset News and Confectionery and the new firm will occupy the Race building ground floor. Stock will include news, books, pictures, frames, queensware and Japanese goods. Anna M Padgett 62 wife of James Padgett died of pneumonia at her home near Sheridan. Funeral Tuesday at Elizaville. A four year old son of Mr and Mrs Seymour Thompson died of pneumonia Sunday. Funeral services Tuesday. Interment at Spencer. John Parr longtime county resident died at his home near Lamong Tuesday of consumption. Funeral at Friends Church in Lamong yesterday conducted by Jesse Mills with interment at Westfield.
The 1902 North Indiana conference of the Methodist churches may meet in Noblesville. Rev. B S Hellopeter backs the push and will urge the church official board to pursue the plan. If steps are taken promptly Noblesville could host the conference next year.
A Louisville letter from January 1991 discusses birds sent for evaluation. The writer claims no feathers were pulled, birds were washed, and placed in the showroom by 8 am Monday, with birds reportedly laying since December 15. Prices for eye molts are requested.
The New System at Arcadia finances a semi annual fund distribution and begins work on a telephone exchange with poles west to Sheridan, east to Omega, and north to Millersburg. The plant should operate within thirty days in connection with the New System. Farmers join at 12 dollars yearly rate, same as households, central office in the bank building as outreach expands.
Miss Daisy Riches takes a past week course as grippes dampen attendance with many teachers afflicted. The Senior class will abandon Latin for Geography. Pupils and teachers fund a lab budget. Kercheval buys an air pump and minor apparatus. Sheridan teachers plan an Institute on February 9 and most attend the Noblesville mid winter meeting. Little Munice Branson injured in school bench accident. News Office prints 500 music books for Prof. Scott’s music department.
An entertainment by the senior class will be held Friday February 8 1901 from 10 35 to 11 50. All citizens interested in the school and its philosophy work are invited. The program features a series of air pump experiments with each pupil taking an active part.
Rev. W. C. Helt, president of the Anti Saloon League of Indiana, preached at M. E. B. church last Sunday morning and lectured at night on temperance. The non partisan talk pleased the audience and is hoped to be repeated to further temperance work.
Announcement states morning sermons at the M E Church on next Sabbath will ask What are Christians for and the evening sermon will ask What is Success.
The Union Aid Society will meet with Mrs Mattie Woods on Main Street Monday February 4 1901. All ladies are requested to attend, says the secretary.
A New York Press report recounts an officer describing a Kaffir who walked about twenty miles with a head wound and brain exposed after a punishment. The man, missing food, endured three days in sun and flies before reaching camp and later hospital evaluation at Standerton.
The Steam Laundry owned by Clements Brothers, moved from Linton where water was scarce and poor, back toward Sheridan Indiana after two months. Linton has no water works, and the plant was torn up and loaded for Sheridan. The brothers were proud of their work but cited the water shortages as the reason for leaving, and stated they would return if Linton ever gets a proper water system.
Citizens in McMullen and neighboring Texas counties fear coyote depredations as scores of cattle are killed and hydrophobia spreads among livestock. A Til den man died after a horse bite from an infected animal. Local plans to eradicate the pests are being discussed.
A concert program at the Opera House tonight features live music. Patrons are invited to enjoy the performance by visiting the venue and experiencing a night of classical and contemporary pieces.
