Sheridans reported strong Christmas sales with many merchants noting results above last year. The midweek holiday created three main shopping days, boosting overall revenue through numerous small purchases while turkeys sold around 22 cents per pound, cheaper than Thanksgiving.
In Adams township prospects brighten for township offices with two trustee seats attracting several claimed candidates including C. G. Scott and Abe Murray while Sheridan residents Wm Long J. P. Bradfield and J. T. Stephens anticipate runs for assessor. Primary timing may align with county polls in February, and January 10 or 11 will see a township convention to name precinct committeemen as a temporary chairman replaces W. J. Woods who moved to New Mexico.
The ninth district will elect a district chairman and ex officio state committee member at a convention in Lebanon on Tuesday January 14. Each county willsend delegates as per representation.
Gene Albert Johnson son of Zeno Johnson died at the family homestead near Bakers Corner Friday noon after a protracted lung illness. He left Angola last winter to study and had been in failing health since. A member of Boxley High School’s first graduating class he was regarded as bright. Funeral services were held at West Grove church Monday morning. His mother and several siblings survive.
Local dealers report about 8000 pounds of candy sold in Sheridan and surrounding areas during Christmas and the holiday season. The candy includes a large share of quality and more expensive varieties.
Joel J. Cash aged 71 died at his Six Points area home last Thursday evening from a complicated stomach and bowel illness. Funeral services were held at Lamong Sunday at 11 am. He is survived by a wife and five children: W A Sheridan T O Kirklin J S Elizaville J C Illinois and Elizabeth E Spencer of Canada.
H. B. Johnson of Atlanta Georgia arrived Tuesday evening to spend Christmas with his family and relatives.
