Old Fashioned Christmas Tree at M E Sabbath School

The M E Sabbath School hosts an old fashioned Christmas tree at the church on Saturday night December 24 with a musical program and gift distribution. Admission is ten cents for adults and children under twelve attend free. A novelty sale by the Y P S C E occurs Tuesday December 20 and Fidelity Lodge F and A M meets Friday evening.

Town Board Meeting Receipts and Local Notices

The town board met in regular session with all members present. Bills approved include C. E. Cox curb 5.25 J H McMurtry printing and license 7.50 Fred Oberlease work 4.50 James Carter 1.55 Geo Pearson 1.05 Cas McKinzie gravel 5.62 Wm Swafford 3.62 The fire engine site was discussed with no action. The clock board to buy new tax duplicates. Johns vs town set for January 2 in Boone Circuit Court. Clerk reports Cease fees collected 1087.00. Subscribers urged to pay and renew News at 1.00 for the coming year. News to remain under same management and improve. Pay subscriptions next week if possible.

Marion Grand Jury Fails to Indict Lew Boyer in false affidavit case

The Marion county grand jury did not indict Lew Boyer for making a false affidavit in the Shoemaker marriage license matter. Boyer secured the license in Indianapolis weeks ago for Miss Shoemaker and Charles Eller marriage and was later arrested on the charge that he claimed Miss Shoemaker resided in Marion county for thirty days.

Oil well strikes gusher at Jennings Louisiana

Word comes that the company led by Eber Te ter is drilling for oil at Jennings La. and has struck a gusher. The well, drilled about a week ago, is reported to be producing six to seven thousand barrels per day. Drill crew faced tool losses and other bad luck but may be fully repaid by the success.

Epworth League Lecture Promises Joyful Insight

The second entertainment course under Epworth League and Christian Endeavor will host an event next Thursday evening December 29. Lee Francis Lyberger will lecture on How to be happy though married or single. The talk blends philosophy with light humor and is described as one of the best stage lectures, a golden opportunity for Sheridan and nearby communities.

Indiana Condensed Milk Factory Expands and Adopts New Brand

The Indiana Condensed Milk Factory adds a heating plant and new front building housing office, storage, and receiving rooms. Milk is weighed in the receiving room and moved via pipes to the main factory. Soon they will label one pound tins as Wil son’s Brand for wholesale and retail sale.

Home for Vacation from Indiana University and Purdue Students

The first term is over and students rush home for the holidays. Leslie Davis Ted Johnson Ralph Pearson and Geo Teter from Indiana University arrive. Purdue friends James Dragoo and Orange Steifey also come. Several others from Purdue DePauw and Urbana plan Christmas visits at home.

Harris presided at DePauw oratorical contest in Greencastle

T L Harris judged the Annual Primary Oratorical Contest at DePauw University in Greencastle. He praised the contest and noted Dr Hughes as a strong future president. Harris met editors Will D Howe and dined with them en route. Harlin C Nichols, formerly Joliet, died at the county infirmary at age 60 after a month at the poor farm.
