Sheridan and Adams township residents traveled to Noblesville Monday to hear Warren T. McCray. Voters who backed Lawder against Wood are shifting to Wood to protest the Johnson faction. The county is urged to give Wood strong support for Americanism.
J. M. Kimble of Sheridan buys the three and a half acre site on West Second street known as the old tile factory grounds from S. Y. Owens for 1500 dollars. The parcel will be developed as a coal yard.
Judge Cloe rendered a verdict in W H Craig v Charles and Everett Neal and Ledger Co. awarding the Neals $1117.06 to be paid into the company and placing the property in receivership likely to be sold. The Ledger Co. operates Noblesville's only daily paper and handled about $40 000 in business last year. The Neals may seek a new trial or appeal.
Cane growers in the area may plant a high value seed this spring after George Symons secured five bushels of Carolina seed that yielded 300 gallons per acre last season. Planting coincides with corn and benefits from commercial fertilizer. The local sorghum factory can run 400 gallons daily, with potential double shifts, and Symons sorghum fetches up to 20 cents more per gallon, ensuring a cash market for surplus as sugar cane growing looks lucrative.
John E. Wills died in Kokomo last week in his 87th year and was buried at Elizaville with the Masonic order in charge of the funeral. He was the father of H. A. Wills who lived west of town.
DOYL MULLEN placed second at the state discussion contest in Bloomington where thirteen schools competed on the topic How shall we solve the railroad problem. First prize went to a Muncie representative and third to the Short ridge school orator. Medals of gold silver and bronze were awarded. Mullen preaches at a Clinton county church and has previously entered the state contest.
Next Tuesday May 4 Republican party of Indiana holds its presidential governor and state and county officer primary. Four Sheridan voting places at Library Malotti Hotel Corner Main and Sixth Town Hall, polls open 6 A M to 6 P M.
Town board moves to install a loud fire alarm at the electric light plant for prompt alerting. Fire crews stress locating exact residences during alarms and improving hose handling to reduce delays amid frequent non emergency calls.
About two hundred attendees filled the Sheridan High School gym for the alumni gathering. M L Mendenhall welcomed the senior class and Voy Mullen responded. The program featured readings by Mrs Frankie Welsh, a girls sextette, and the high school orchestra. Officers elected: Paul Nay president, Mrs Malissa Kirk vice president, Miss Susan Cox secretary, Foe Beauchamp treasurer. Light refreshments followed with a Lebanon orchestra providing music. Receipts exceeded expenses and the event was deemed enjoyable.
Monday marks the final day to pay the spring tax installment without added penalties. Taxpayers are urged to settle dues to avoid late charges.
Paul Collins former employee of T. L. Collins clothing store, now living on a southeast Sheridan area farm, is seriously ill with a nervous trouble and was taken to Mt. Jackson hospital in Indianapolis on Friday.
The firm Mace and Burton formed by Jean Mace and Fred Burton has purchased the Pickett grocery and meat market and assumes management.
