Noblesville courtroom ends case as key witness skips

In Noblesville Indiana the state case against J C Tarman Sheridan owner of a moving picture show for assault and battery ends when Samuel Stephens fails to appear Judge Cloe admonishes Stephens and fines him ten dollars for contempt while the Tarman case is dropped. Other items include road paving plans for Boone and Hamilton counties and various court actions and notices.

Legion Post Plans Minstrel Show and Community House

The American Legion Ken neth V. Elliott post held a successful Monday meeting at the library basement featuring Legion Six orchestra Norman Fisher solos and war songs by audience members. New members brought total to 75 with a goal of 200, and a minstrel show is planned next month along with Decoration Day plans. The Legion hopes to build a Sheridan Community House with about 7000 in sight.

Noted Lecturer to Speak at High School Commencement

Roscoe Gillmore Stott, a noted Chautauqua lecturer and author, will deliver the class address at the high school commencement in the Methodist church tonight. Parr's Orchestra will provide music and admission is free.

Enumeration Work Delayed by High Waters and Rain

High waters and continued rains delay the enumeration in both town and township. Work will probably not be completed before May first.

Thirtieth Annual Alumni Meeting Planned at High School Gym

Arrangements are complete for the thirtieth annual alumni meeting to be held at the high school gym next Tuesday night. Admission is $1.50 per couple.

Sheridan Young Man Killed in Cleveland

Herman Fristoe twenty five year old son of Mr and Mrs E T Fristoe of Sheridan was killed instantly at Cleveland Ohio Saturday noon when struck by a heavy automobile truck as he and a fellow worker tried to board a street car. He had lived in Cleveland about two years after leaving Washington DC where he served in the war. He leaves a wife and four year old son. The body was brought home with the funeral at his Sheridan residence followed by burial in Crown View cemetery.

Dr J C Newby who has been seriously ill for several days is slightly improved indicating a partial recovery and hopeful advancement in his condition.

Boone County Calf Club Inspires Dairy Development

Two years ago Boone County formed calf clubs with 28 Guernsey calves distributed to 14 boys and girls financed by Lebanon banks on three year terms. A second club started this March with 15 calves shared by local youths. Banks praise the program as a community boon boosting milk production and farm methods, noting a two year old heifer yielding over 32 pounds daily and urging Sheridan as a future hub for Indiana calf clubs.

Westfield dominates tri school oratorical at Noblesville

In the Noblesville event, Westfield took first and third places while Sheridan and Noblesville each had two speakers. Alphea Foland won for Westfield with Mobana Law, Ralph Boyd placed third with Ireland, the Land of Martyrs. Alberta Essington and Harry Malott represented Noblesville.

Doyi Mullen Missing State Contest Conflicts Diploma Night

Doyi Mullen of the graduating class cannot attend the diploma ceremony due to the State Discussion contest at Bloomington on the same date. He will represent the district in the contest and will not return until Saturday. One high school faculty member will accompany him.

Base Ball Team Returns This Season At Compton's Park

Sheridan will be represented on the diamond again this year by a credit able team. New uniforms are ordered and plans made for building a grandstand at Compton's park. The club expresses appreciation for the support and good will shown by local fans.

Juniors Host Reception for Graduating Class at Library

The junior class held a reception for about fifty students and school officials in the library basement Tuesday evening. Two young ladies from Indianapolis provided readings and musical numbers. Light refreshments were served.

The local post office reports a surge in parcel post traffic due to an express strike. Both express and freight shipments remain irregular and several days may pass before normal conditions resume.

Automobiles Collide At Range Line Crossing Injures Four

Sunday crash at the Range line crossing east of Bakers Corner left four injured including Miss Grace Sexton of Kokomo with a broken back and a fractured skull to the driver. Robert Lockridge of Indianapolis and Will Fouch of Adams township were also involved. The Fouch car overturned and Mrs Fouch and baby were uninjured.

Baccalaureate Sermon At Christian Church Draws Large Crowd

Rev. Dunlavy of Frankfort delivered the Baccalaureate sermon to the graduating class Sunday night. Many were turned away for lack of room while the sermon inspired both old and young. Special music featured the choir and a solo by Miss Jewer Wilson.

Juniors Stage A Good Play at the High School Gym

The Junior class play Deacon Dubbs drew crowds Thursday and Saturday night at the high school gym. A clean wholesome comedy with a villain and hero provided laughter and applause. The cast delivered solid performances.

Sheridan Boys Head League Presidents Named

Frank McConnell of Sheridan and Purdue senior was elected temporary president of the University Lincoln League Club at a Monday night meeting. Russell Williams, also of Sheridan, is president of the Lincoln League at Indiana University.
