A promotion offers $1600 in gold given away on the first day of every month. Shoppers receive a free ticket with each 50 cent purchase at Gox and Rickard's Shoe Store, advertising low prices on Easter shoes work shoes and all kinds of footwear.
Three damage suits filed in Hamilton circuit court over an accident near Cicero involve Wilfred Randall and Sheyfeld of Washington township. Plaintiffs claim saloon keepers at Atlanta sold liquor to Randall while intoxicated, causing the cross with an interurban car. Damages sought include 2000 for Randall and Nora Shepherd 2000 for loss of spousal support, and 300 for Sheldon Shepherd for a horse and wagon damage. Others named include Mundell Holland and Scherletch with saloon ties. saloonkeeper Early of Cicero. The case also notes a separate Indiana v. J. W. Richey appeal and a pending Hancock County arrest warrant for Richey.
An epidemic of measles known as the black measles is raging in the northern part of the township. Two children of John Butcher and Smith Goings have died and others are seriously sick. No other cases reported in nearby areas.
The Lebanon Pioneer reports that on Wednesday morning April 7 1909 the Boone County board of commissioners voted to construct a new courthouse costing 250000 dollars on the site of the present building which dates from fifty five years ago and cost 32000 dollars to erect.
Wheat speculation on the Chicago Board of Trade pushes flour prices up in the area. Flour has risen steadily for six months and now retails at 32.00 per thousand, the highest since 1904. Analysts predict further increases as cheap flour days end.
The Brownsburg high school track team travels to our town for a dual meet at Second Ward grounds. The Sheridan squad includes Davis in runs and hurdles Williams Griffin in pole vault and jump Dickey Gregg in half and mile Beck Elliott Miller in sprints and weights Moody Endaley in sprints Burkett and McMath in high jump.
Petitions circulate in Boone County urging the board of county commissioners to call a local option election. Petitions could be filed at the May board meeting with a vote as soon as possible after. Campaign leadership includes Chairman E. C. Gullion Vice chairman J. J. Terhune Secretary William Turner Treasurer Dr. O. C. Higgins.
The commissioners confirm the Pearson Rader drain report and assessments for reconstruction. A ditch is ordered established and the petitioners’ attorney is allowed $100. Daniel Honan is appointed superintendent of construction. Lebanon Patriot reports the action.
Easter services were observed in the churches Sunday with a cold wind but fair weather. The pleasant conditions allowed for a display of new spring apparel among attendees at various congregations.
The second examination for graduation from common schools will be held Saturday April 17 in the Boxley high school building. At the first examination held in March there were twenty four graduates.
A new Monon ruling goes into effect to benefit travelers who purchase tickets at the depot. If not bought there, a ten cent extra charge will apply. Rev Brightmire, the new Methodist minister, will preach the opening sermon Sunday morning. The choir and male quartet will perform in services. Everyone is invited.
A county gathering began yesterday at the Methodist church and will continue in session, with members of the W W Cc T U overseeing the proceedings and expected to discuss community concerns.
Reverend Cain and his family relocated to a new residence in Gas City yesterday. The move marks a fresh start for the family in their updated surrounding and community.
