Clair Parr suffered injuries to two fingers when vestibule doors closed on train 30 Monday morning. Witnesses say the doors caused the damage. he was taken from the train at Westfield and treated by the company physician.
W J Hawkins died at his home in Carmel Sunday from Brights disease. He was 66, a Civil War veteran, former County Treasurer, and member of Friends Church I C O F and Masonic lodges. Survived by a wife and three children Mrs J W Teter, Mrs Albert Kinzer, and Frank Hawkins.
Robert Drake returned home Sunday for a fifteen days visit with his parents after serving aboard the battleship Louisiana on a world cruise. He spoke of lands visited in China sending his mother a forty two piece china set and recalled his sister Mary with a postcard album.
Invitations printed Monday list five seniors two boys and three girls: Harry O. Mendenhall Harle Z. Mundy Fannie H. Cox Ella M. Haworth and Winifred M. Foster. Margaret Nicholson wife of William Nicholson dies of puerperal fever at home south of Sheridan at age thirty four. Funeral at home today at 10:30 with interment at Crown View cemetery.
Mr and Mrs J B Baker celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary on a Friday with an all day visit from relatives including Mr and Mrs Thomas D Baker and others. About forty guests attended the original 1859 wedding. five of those present joined the celebration, with baskets, a dinner, carnations and ferns as tokens of the milestone.
In the Second ward building Friday evening the county oratorical contest representatives were selected. John Miller was chosen as orator and Marjorie Mickel as alternate. Judges were T. L. Harris J. E. Kercheval and Rev. Assiter.
The Alumni Musical date moved to Wednesday evening April 7 and will be in the K of P hall. The program features vocal and instrumental music entirely by members of the organization and offers substantial interest for music lovers due to the available talent.
Relatives gathered March 28 to surprise G. W. Beam on his 69th birthday with 37 guests including Abe Thompson Al Beam Martha Sharp Dovie Thompson Ted Beam John Ross J B Baker Thos D W H Baker Jesse Kellum John Burton and Cretin Burton and Gertrude Baker The dinner featured a large turkey from his flock and the guests left pleased with the day and the hosts satisfied.
City board in special session approves survey report on twelve and eight inch tile sewer for Southwest Sheridan. A resolution declares necessity and sets Monday night April 19 for hearing objections.
Mrs. John Hammer a former resident died at her home near Deming Sunday night after a stroke of apoplexy as she prepared to attend Hinkle Creek church. Survived by husband and four sons Albert Charles Alpheus Otis.
Henry Southards acquires the 60 acre farm northeast of Sheridan formerly owned by R N Crumbaugh. Mrs Crumbaugh takes the 30 acre parcel belonging to Henry Southards. R N Crumbaugh gains the 40 acre tract a mile north of town and Curt Crumbaugh gets the residence property west of the Methodist church. Curt may move to Texas soon while R N Crumbaugh and family relocate to the farm after house improvements.
The local lodge of Masons received an invitation from the Oriental lodge of Indianapolis to visit them next Tuesday evening. A number of members are arranging to comply with the invitation.
The recent New Laws Legislature acts arrived bound at the county clerks and will be distributed by county clerks after direct shipments from the State printer. Receipts will be sent to the Governor and proclamations will follow once all receipts are in. The state secretary need not issue copies. Also notes on a teacher examination day and various court actions including dissolution suits and a divorce request, with docket updates.
J R Bailey writes from Winnipeg that ground lies a foot deep in snow and lakes are frozen as he traveled from Sheridan in two days. He worked two years as a traveling salesman for Haug Bros and Nellermoe Co Ltd with Peoria as his previous headquarters. Rev R W Clymer of Noblesville will preach at the Christian church with a Roll Call at the morning service and members are urged to attend and respond for absent names.
