The General Mess announces a Thanksgiving menu for Thursday November 23 with roast turkey and trimmings. Over 20 000 pounds of turkey will be served to GIs and their guests with ticketed pricing for guests and family members.
The A R Association sets a $150000 war loan goal for Wichita County with post personnel ready to roll. The Sheppard Field Loan Stars premiere Wednesday at Theater No 3 features Lt Allen Johnston and a cast of service personnel in an 80 minute revue titled This Is It. A gala Wichita Falls showing follows Friday night November 24 at Memorial Auditorium with a Hollywood style opening planned.
Sergeant Edmund Pignone of Section H was to receive a Presidential Unit Citation Bar with star from Col Alfred L Jewett in a field ceremony this morning. He distinguished himself with the First Marine Division Reinforced in the Solomons from August 7 to December 9, 1942.
Colonel A L Jewett of the Air Corps urges Sheppard Field personnel to observe November 20 as Fact-Facing Day and to support the Sixth War Loan Drive with sacrifice through War Bonds. He frames victory as distant and cites bearing banners of democracy and freedom as requiring sustenance from bond purchases.
The 78th AAF Base Unit from Selfridge Field arrives at Sheppard Field to begin communications processing. Maj. C. R. Pomerville leads the unit activated May 15, with crews from Truax Scott Chanute Boca Raton awaiting reclassification exams, training, and overseas deployment.
Captain Winkeljohn reports Sheppard Field has collected over 180000 pounds of salvage paper since October 10, a 1000 percent increase. Three carloads monthly, about 60 tons, will be shipped. mixed paper fetches 19 a ton, newspapers 20, and cardboard 24.
A new athletic and recreation association will sponsor sports at the Wichita Falls Boys Club at Sixth and Broad. Monthly 25 cent memberships for service members allow entry for the subscriber and spouse to all activities, with civilians to be priced later. Two Monday boxing cards monthly and basketball events are planned, starting with a gala show on Monday Nov. 27. Col. Alfred L. Jewett heads the Board of Governors, joined by Majors Payne Elmgren Pooley and other post officers and CWO Benjamin Franklin as secretary.
The popular program Blind Date featuring smooth talking soldiers will be presented at Service Club 2 on Wednesday at 8 p.m. Date bait will be supplied by Mrs. Alice Lowe.
