Service Club Set to Open at Sheppard Field
The Service Club at Sheppard Field opens Saturday at 9 30 a m for enlisted personnel offering recreation on the field. Facilities include a library hall mezzanine with tables and radio phonograph music plus cafeteria meals. Lt Archie Sorensen says no special program is planned for opening day to accommodate as many men as possible. club hours are daily 9 30 a m to 9 30 p m.

The 219 graduates, part of the 70th Air Base Group and 316th Tech School Squadron, received diplomas in a ceremony at Sheppard Field. Maj. Harold E. Dungan led the post formation as BT 14 planes from Randolph Field saluted. Marian Anderson performed and the event was broadcast by network radio.

Gasoline Leak Forces Quick Landing in Flight to Waco
Passengers aboard a flight bound for Sheppard Field from Waco detected gasoline smell as a wing tank had a missing gasket. Pilot Fulcher Armstrong landed safely. a new gasket was installed and the journey resumed. Marian Anderson and Russian manager Alexander Jose noted the risk and commented on the close call before ceremonies.

Pearl Harbor First Dance At USC Tonight
Three simultaneous dances tonight at the Lamar avenue USO center in Wichita Falls mark the first major social event for Sheppard Field enlisted men since the new recreation headquarters opened Sunday. Eight battalions from Wichita Falls and nearby towns, plus over 500 young women, will attend with music from the Jive Bombers Wings of Music and a record machine on three floors. Dedication ceremonies yesterday closed with an open hour inspection that drew about 8000 soldiers and civilians.
