AC Reservists Begin Basic Training Here

AC reservists and aviation cadet reserves are processed at the post for about four weeks of basic training before most return to colleges for prep courses. A small group may be sent to Flying Training Command centers after an educational test. highest scorers go directly to centers. The program, run by the Technical Training Command, follows orders from Gen. H H Arnold. Tonight is the last performance of the Don Cossack Chorus at Theatre No 3 for Sheppard Field enlisted men, a free USO show.

Mechanic of the Month Named for Texacts Student

Pvt. Rolland W. Klein, 21, formerly a Swift & Co. foreman from St. Joseph Missouri, is named Mechanic of the Month by the Texacts technical school faculty. He scored 89 and tops in aircraft mechanics and glider maintenance in class 11 9 42 B with Lt Col Bruce von G Scott announcing. Klein, attached to the 317th TSS, is the first soldier honored in the TEXACTS contest.

Office set to finish all income tax returns for military post

The post announces an IRS staffed office at Special Service Ride 536 to aid Sheppard Field personnel in preparing 1942 federal tax forms. Enrollment begins Monday Feb 8 with schedules pending. Taxpayers are urged to list income and deductions in detail beforehand to speed the process to about ten minutes per form.

Post Guest House Adds Pastime Games for Relatives

Miss Iola Barron, hostess, says the new Post Guest House at Sheppard Field offers visitors a relaxing lounge with new games. The home accommodates 54 guests. rooms rent 50 cents per person per night. Relatives of soldiers in hospital receive room preference when near capacity.

Seven Post Captains Are Made Majors

Seven post captains were promoted to majors by War Department directives in Washington this week, announced by post headquarters on Thursday. Five are dental officers in the Dental Corps, including Carrol C. Smith, adjutant at the station hospital, and others named Wood, Cornish, Rist, Baumgardner, Rose. James W. Miller, property officer of the Quartermaster Corps, also promoted.
