Musical Charmers to Perform at Sheppard Field Sunday
The Texas State College for Women at Denton presents the Musical Charm Program directed by Dr. William E. Jones. The Campus Serenaders, Campus Caperettes, Vocalaires, Violin Trio, an accordion soloist and baton twirling act will entertain soldiers at Sheppard Field after an Lamar USO appearance, continuing a history of Army camp performances since 1940.

Cherokee bomber pilot Lt Henry B Taylor 28 plans marriage in Tulsa after serving 24 months in the South Pacific with 53 B 25 and 188 B 47 missions totaling 241. Known as Little Chief he says he was scared when a 500 pound bomb hit a Jap cruiser.

Communion Service Planned Sunday
Protestant worshippers at Shep pard Field may observe Holy Communion each Sunday in an early chapel service to be inaugurated April 8. Chaplain George B. Dalrymple announced the weekly service will be conducted with assistance from downtown churches, with Pvt. Oren L. Sutter providing music. The 30 minute rites begin at 8:15 Sunday mornings in Chapel No. 4, Building 345.

Reopening of Nos. 5 and 9 Mess Halls at Sheppard Field
All but one mess hall at Sheppard Field were active this week to handle Enlisted Reserve Corps members and overseas returnees. Five Soldiers and Civilian to Receive Decorations
Five soldiers and one civilian will receive military decorations for air and bomber operations in World War II. S. Sgt. Amos E Bergeron, from Squadron C, earned the Air Medal for meritorious service as a gunner on anti submarine convoy missions between August 1942 and May 1943. S. Sgt. Joseph C Portuges, formerly a B-24 gunner with the 15th Air Force, is to receive the Silver Star for a May 24, 1944 bombing mission against a key Austrian airfield despite heavy anti aircraft and fighter opposition. Portuges hails from Los Angeles California. Willis R Orr of Jean Texas, will receive the Air Medal, with his son S. Sgt Ray L Orr of the First Bombardment Division noted as missing in action. S. Sgt. Robert O Spooner, formerly with the Second Bombardment Division and now with Squadron C, will be awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for numerous Europe missions. Spooner is a native of Paducah Kentucky. S. Sgt. Jean D Thompson of Squadron NI will receive the DFC for extraordinary achievement on B 24 missions over Europe. his home is St Augustine Florida. S. Sgt. Donald P Wisley of Squadron S Kansas City Missouri will receive the DFC for service as waist gunner on B 17 missions over Germany and occupied nations from January 29 to July 16 1944. Amos E Bergeron is cited for outstanding performance in combat.

General Chaney reassumes command as Iwo Jima island officer
Maj. Gen. J. E. Chaney, former commander at Sheppard Field, becomes island commander of Iwo Jima with Pacific Fleet headquarters announced Monday.
