Millions of Blackbirds Invasion Baffles Farmers
The article notes large flocks of blackbirds migrating to feeding grounds and roosting places, creating crop damage by eating corn. Farmers report the birds’ keen targeting of loose husks, making control through shooting ineffective. Numbers have risen noticeably in four to five years after a prior decline, with a nod to a historic incident of twenty four blackbirds baked in a pie for the king.
Refunds Sought for Unconstitutional License Law
Clerk Edward Oswald of Washington County courts reports a flood of applications from non residents for $5 license refunds after the license act was found unconstitutional. He has not received any official notice of Attorney General Armstrongs opinion or state orders to refund money paid to the Fish and Wildlife Board, and cautions applicants that refunds depend on court rulings. A separate notice marks the anniversary of a public event on Friday with local officials and mourners expected in attendance.
