Bid For Maryland Road Accepted by State Commission
The Maryland State Roads Commission awarded to Poy Flanigan and Sons of Washington the contract to build four miles of sheet asphalt road from Keedysville toward Shepherdstown for 104,894. The deal hinges on Washington county financing half the cost as a lateral road. The plan splits funding with the state, but current federal money may be unavailable. The county hopes to raise funds or receive credits for roads already purchased to cover the Keedysville to Sharpsburg section. Construction features include a sheet asphalt surface with a concrete shoulder. The contractor aims to finish the section this year if funds align. An outstanding item from the recent West Virginia Grand Lodge session was a $100 gift to Rev Fr. William Gerhardt, founder of Lodge No Yin Martinsburg in 1869, who died years ago at age 100. A monument will be erected in Martinsburg with ceremonies.
