Fragmented Civil War reminiscence and battlefield recollections
The text recalls a 1862 Sharpsburg era skirmish near Shepherdstown with Capt. Munford and the 2nd Virginia Cavalry fighting at Boteler's Ford. It describes picket actions, river crossing chaos, and general movements along Wyesong’s Cross Roads, plus later reflections on bravery, sacrifices, and the emotional toll of war on soldiers and civilians. It blends field reporting with personal recollection and civic sentiment from the era.
