U-139 and Henderson clash in American waters tale
A long compendium recounts the 1918 contact between German U boats and the U S S Henderson off the American coast. Captain Sayles and French officers discuss possible verified contact, with speculation on damage to subs and torpedo history tied to coastal incidents. The piece links the encounter to prior shipboard reports and British intelligence notes, framing it as a potential first recorded Allied contact with German subs in U S waters.
