Florida Field Notes and Shepherdstown Local News
A 1920 journal entry covers Florida travels with notes on St Augustine sights, weather, bands, birds, and a playful remark on the Fountain of Youth. Nearby items report Martinsburg escape of Charles Robinson, bond votes in Shepherdstown, and community echoes on churches, schools, and real estate sales.
Carry Amendment in Court Seeks Mandamus to Challenge Ratification
In Charleston, a writ of mandamus will ask courts to compel the President and Congress to reject the Federal Suffrage Amendment as certified by West Virginia leaders. Joseph Holt Grimes, anti-suffrage counsel, and Miss Chariot Rowe of the National Association Opposed to Woman Suffrage said the matter will go to court, with Rowe noting the real battle over federal suffrage has just begun.
