Sending Off Shepherdstown Veterans With Warm Red Cross Sendoff
A large reception in the old college hall honored Shepherdstown district men bound for training camps. Mayor Waldeck welcomed them with optimism as Miss Sallie Powell distributed comfort kits. Refreshments and patriotic songs followed, with thanks to organizers and a note of support from the community. A separate Asbury hall event honored local Black residents and the three men Raymond Devonshire, Alexander Clark, and James Jentres Davis with a program and prayers.
