C R Billmyer reopened a tin shop in the rear of his residence on Newstreet Shepherdstown beside the firehouse. He will do roofing guttering roof painting and tin work. Promises satisfaction and a square deal with prices that are OK. May 25 1912.
Public notice from a local elevator announcing they will offer the highest market price for grain including wheat and corn. The business also stocks coal mill feed salt grass seed and fertilizer in season and invites farmers to bring their outputs for sale. Dated 1912.
The Baltimore and Ohio Railroad creates a Bureau of Agriculture with James H Stewart of Morgantown West Virginia named agricultural agent. He will oversee cooperation with the industrial department to advance farming in the system area. Stewart, ex-director of West Virginia Agricultural Experiment Station, will push scientific farming and rural development across the line.
A freight train out of Illinois Central yards to Cairo carries a one legged Confederate veteran who rode past a Yankee conductor. The two men share memories of Cold Harbor and Plum Thicket, then the conductor helps the veteran reach Brownsville, Memphis, with a final gift of eleven dollars.
