Route debate shapes Jefferson Martinsburg road plan
In Jefferson and Berkeley counties residents debated routes for a Martinsburg connection. Backed by the Martinsburg Chamber of Commerce, supporters argued for a Leetown to Martinsburg corridor via Halltown Shepherdstown and pine hills. Opponents urged a main Leetown Martinsburg path avoiding costly curves and a chokepoint near Opequon Creek, favoring a longer but broader east–west route. The State Road Commission will decide after a public meeting. The State buys old Entler Hotel site in Shepherdstown for Shepherd College dormitory use, at 10500 cash, converting the building and adjacent lot into student housing with minimal changes. The project aims to ready the dorm by September and boost Shepherd College enrollment.
