Two Sad Drownings Reflect Arlington and Indian Head Tragedies
The notice recounts two drownings. John N. Stribling, a member of the 38th Infantry U.S. A. and volunteer, drowned in the Potomac near Washington while tailing from a boat on May 29. His body was recovered near Indian Head after Navy Yard search efforts and given full military honors at Arlington Cemetery. W. H. Hallam, formerly of Washington and owner of Scottish Castle on Bolivar Heights, drowned while bathing in Lakeland, Florida, his body interred after services at his home. The piece also notes a pavement assessment dispute in Harper's Ferry and a railway sale involving the Twin Mountain and Potowac line. A Holstein cow set a world record price of 30,000 at St Paul sales, purchased by Gustav Pabst.
