In other news, W N Beall and J B Strange died in a Dallas hotel duel over a dispute likely involving a woman, while in Johnstown a worker narrowly survived an accident at Cambria Iron Works as Zachariah Taylor nearly lost his neck to a red hot rod before he died from his injuries. Thomas O Neill helped untwist the rod and was burned.

Horrific Baltimore and Ohio Rail Crash at Washington
A collision between two Baltimore and Ohio trains at Washington on Saturday evening caused the deaths of engineer Riley and fireman Fogler. Eight or more injured, two engines wrecked, and rolling stock destroyed as trains No. 12 from Baltimore and No. 7 from Martinsburg collided at a junction. Rescue and firefighting followed. Riley died shortly after release, Fogler died from injuries, and Orem and Eng win were freed from wreckage. The Martinsburg engine mounted the other, with debris strewn along the tracks. Riley had 29 years with the company.
