Scout hike near Shepherdstown ends with night walk and escape
A group of Drg Bay Scouts with Rev A Grose faced a tense night at Harvey Poffenberger's farm along Hagerstown pike. After a frightened wakeful turn, they joined a wagon to Williamsport then hurried home upon learning of potential danger, later recounting the event as a famous trek with soldiers in Antietam imagery. The tale concludes with the Scouts finally reaching Shepherdstown the next day.
