Rural Christmas Memories From a Washington Childhood
A memoir recalls Christmas in a bygone rural Maryland era with Virgina Liegbur and Mrs. Sue Reinhart Keeti in Shepherdstown. Readers remember handmade trees lit by wax tapers, candy stores led by Mr Show, and toy animals and orange gifts from Sunday school. The piece contrasts old country Christmas joys with modern abundance, noting snowy days, sledding, and family gatherings, and ends reflecting on neighbors and a legal notice unrelated to the holiday reminiscence.
