Shifting Seas and Sunday Solace in 1922 Dispatches
A garbled 1922 column surveys ships sailing to Havana and calls for Sunday observance by post officials. It questions unequal railroad fare cuts between East and West, criticizes Baltimore papers, notes coal miners strikes in multiple states, and cites a U S injunction against union interference in coal mines as tensions rise over labor actions. The piece preserves dated references to Postmaster General Hubert Work, Baltimore Sun and American, and General W. McClintic ruling amid ongoing labor unrest.

West Virginia State Tax Commissioner Walter S. Hallanan says many school districts fix low assessments to claim state aid, pauperizing themselves and draining local funds. He cites districts in Summers County receiving five dollars from the state for every local dollar raised and lists county distribution figures from the $1,338,000 pool, noting Jefferson, Berkeley, Morgan, Hampshire, Hardy, Mineral, Grant, Pendleton, Kanawha, Fayette, Summers and Greenbrier among recipients.
