Boy Hurt When Slid Down Hill Hit by Car

Carl Mahnke nine year old son of Mr and Mrs Hugo Mahnke sustained two broken hips and other injuries after a sled ride on a hill at Fourteenth street near Wisconsin and New York avenues. He was rushed to St Nicholas hospital in serious condition.Driver Walter Hoffmann of Manitowoc reported the incident and his car skidded while trying to avoid the boy. The boy and his family received the community’s sympathy as he lay in the hospital awaiting recovery.
