Five men rescued from Lake Michigan near Chicago river mouth
Five men aboard the pleasure launch Commoner were saved early today by Capt Charles Garland and his life saving crew five miles northeast of the Chicago river mouth. Henry Pieper Run Down By Northbound Freight Near Plymouth
Henry Pieper 70 of Plymouth was struck by a Milwaukee road freight train a mile south of Plymouth near Brickbauer Mill at 11 this morning while walking along the tracks. He suffered a fractured left ankle and severe head cuts. He was taken to the Plymouth depot and home. Pieper, Civil War veteran with many local friends, previously lived in St. Cloud Fond du Lac county and operated a grist mill. Officials believe he may have failed to hear or see the oncoming train and may have stepped onto the track.
