The Sheboygan County Cheesemakers association led by President D G DeBuhr and Secretary B J Conger issued a statement opposing the National Cheese Institute stance on moisture content in American cheese. Madison Wis UP The Sheboygan Press designated as official state paper replacing Capital Times after swift signature by Gov Albert G Schmedeman less than a day after Senate fight. Measure shifts state printing outside Madison first since 1895 under Gov Peck. Progres sive Republicans opposed while assembly backed sponsor Jerome Fox Chilton.
A sea of shoppers filled Sheboygan as Dollar Day sparked record sales and crowded parking on Eighth Street. Carloads of merchandise were snapped up, and 11,700 extra copies of The Press were mailed within a thirty mile radius to expand the trading area.
Alderman Edgar A. Meves reports a plan to move coal from the C Reiss Coal docks to the Wisconsin Power and Light plant south of the city. Coal cars would travel west on the Chicago & North Western Indiana line to the south yard and switch to the Milwaukee Electric Railway & Light line for delivery. A new track connection near the south yards would be needed, with railways’ consent.
Thousands of inauguration visitors filled Washington as the capital faced a housing squeeze ahead of President-elect Roosevelt's Saturday swearing in. Hotels reported full occupancy with rates soaring. about 20,000 citizens offered spare rooms for an average $4 daily. Roosevelt will stay three rooms and a bath at the Flower Hotel before moving to the White House.
Senator-elect Duffy and State Chairman Charles E. Broughton will meet James Farley to discuss patronage in Wisconsin. Duffy says postmasterships stay with Democratic congressmen and that local wishes will guide appointments, mostly to Democrats, with endorsements from Broughton for key federal positions.

In Miami physicians report Mayor Anton J. Cermak of Chicago is improving after a blood transfusion for a bullet wound. He battles pneumonia with continued careful observation. doctors warn he remains very ill though progress is hopeful.
In Madison Wisconsin the proposed five cent per hundred pounds reduction in fluid milk prices paid to farmers by major condenseries will be delayed to at least March 15. Companies involved include Borden Pet Carnation Nestles Libby Van Camp Sheffields Armour. Governor Schmedeman asked for a halt after a conference with manufacturers distributors and officials due to farmers income concerns. Department officials had not been informed of seven company plans. Some sources suggest a two week delay by other firms.
Franklin D Roosevelt leaves Hyde Park for New York City on the first stage of his journey toward the White House. He travels amid anticipation as he moves toward becoming president.
President elect Roosevelt completed his official family with Louis M. Howe Marvin H. McIntyre and Stephen T. Early named as key aides. Frances Perkins will be secretary of labor and Daniel C. Roper secretary of commerce. The White House staff includes Rudolph Forster Pat McKenna and Erwin H. Hoover. Roosevelt plans to take active government control next Saturday noon.
Chinese forces widened their southern Jehol front by 25 miles in a surprise flanking move. Fierce fighting followed with Chinese casualties pegged at 200–300 and Japanese at 300–400. Areas north of the Great Wall near the sea saw rapid advances and heavy clashes as multiple units maneuvered near Shamaoshan Yakow Lingnan and Mingshulampa Pass.
Madison dispatch reports the Wisconsin Assembly rejected the Carow bill by 52 to 43 after earlier moves to engrossment.
