The Wir Savings drive launches a War Stamp campaign aiming to raise 420000 by Friday with 300 attendees expected. every person, including families, is urged to buy stamps as a wartime investment. City and school leaders set quotas and pledge-card procedures, enforcing attendance and reporting at district meetings.
The Railroad Commission of Wisconsin authorizes the Eastern Wisconsin Electric Company to run single operator streetcars in Sheboygan. John Acker longtime court house janitor and former deputy sheriff died after a stroke at his home. Born February 11 1864 he served as janitor and was later in business with a boarding house. Survived by widow Theresa Kross four children and siblings burial at North Side Catholic cemetery with Requiem High Mass at Holy Name church.
Government markets report from Chicago shows cattle and sheep activity with steady to higher bids on cattle and steady to lower prices for sheep. Receipts totaled around 7 000 cattle and 10 000 sheep with buyers paying 15 to 30 cents higher on some groups and bids ranging to 16 60 for cattle and about 12 60 for spring lambs, reflecting a varied market.
Chairman Hurley of the Shipping Board told the Senate agricultural committee that the nation cannot risk experiments and must focus on war effort. Miss Viola Zimmerman Aurelia Frome and Walter Miller were pinned beneath an overturned auto on the Howards Grove road after a collision with a Ford driven by E Karstedt and Nagel of Mobrsvile. Miller lost control, the car crashed through a fence into a ditch, occupants freed with only minor bruises.
The first sixty questionnaires were issued to men registered June 5 by the local exemption board. They must be returned within seven days to the exemption board’s office in the circuit court room. Assistance is available in the court room from 9:30 am to noon and 2 to 5:30 pm from the legal advisory board of the first district. A list of recipients is printed, with many names and addresses across the city.

American troops hold a mountainous sector southeast of St Die as the battle line crosses from Lorraine into German territory. Since June 1 they have remained in the trenches, with a recent enemy raid capturing two Americans and another raid near Baerwat causing additional captures. German artillery was active north of Toul in retaliation, and an air battle over Thiauscourt ended without losses. St Die lies about 15 miles south of Badonviller and seven miles from the German frontier. Markirch is six miles northeast of the American sector.
