Monoplane crosses Atlantic lands safely in Wales

The Friendship, a tri motor hydro airplane carrying Amelia Earhart and Louis Gordon, landed in the Bristol Channel estuary near Burry Port Wales after a 20 hour 49 minute flight from Trepassey Newfoundland. Crowds cheered as the first woman to cross the Atlantic by air touched down. The craft then braved mist and sea as it sought a landing site along the Welsh coast.

Racine Loses Bid to Challenge Gasoline Tax

Madison Wis The Wisconsin supreme court denied Racine’s petition to test the constitutionality of the state gasoline tax. The action sought to bring the case before the court before filing in lower courts.

Fond du Lac man dies en route to hospital

A Fond du Lac man, Mr. Treleven born March 4 1878, collapsed while driving to a city hospital. An ambulance took him to St Nicholas Hospital but he died before arrival. He was active in business and survived by his wife, a brother and a sister. He belonged to Elks Masonic Blue Lodge Knights Templars and the Shrine. Funeral services are planned for Tuesday afternoon.

Heilberger Verdict Affirmed by State Supreme Court

The Wisconsin Supreme Court affirmed a circuit court verdict in Sheboygan County ordering New Amsterdam Casualty to pay Elizabeth Heilberger Lueek 4560 for the death of her husband John Heilberger. He was killed December 1 1924 when struck by Sfred Ehler while riding a bicycle. The casualty company had refused payment claiming Ehler did not participate in the defense.

Lightning Strikes North Of City Hurts Family

A lightning bolt struck the Miller home on Grand Avenue north of Marwillet subdivision at 7 a m today. Mrs Miller and her three children ages six weeks to five years escaped injury as plaster showered the room and a small blaze appeared. The strike wrecked the interior, knocked off the chimney and shattered all windows. Two electric transformer offices were knocked out and north of North avenue suffered power and phone outages. Mrs Miller bruised her leg as she fetched water to douse the fire.

Couple At Wausau Are Found Dead

Bodies of Charles Morrison a 21 Weston Wis and Verna Tietz 19 Wausau were found near his home late Saturday afternoon by two boys Verna appears shot twice and Morrison once Sheriff Arthur Siewert investigates possible self inflicted death pact with Morrison seen as the shooter and the affair ending in tragedy (continued on Page 13).

Manitowoc Road Official Joseph Connell Dies at 63

Joseph Connell 63, longtime Manitowoc county highway commissioner and former income tax assessor, was found dead in bed Sunday from heart disease. He served as supervisor of assessments in 1910, became district assessor in 1912 for Manitowoc and Calumet counties, and resigned in 1920 to pursue other duties.

Lindbergh Receives Honorary Wisconsin Degree

Charles A. Lindbergh, once dismissed for scholastic shortfalls, is awarded an honorary doctor of laws by the University of Wisconsin Madison. The aviator, national hero after his solo Atlantic flight, had earlier faced university dismissal in 1920 1922 but later earned the school’s lasting recognition.

Three County Deputies Hurt In Port Washington Crash

Three local deputy sheriffs were bruised and one suffered a fractured leg after a Chrysler sedan collided with a car returning from a driveway near Port Washington. Deputies Hansing Knopp and Juckem were taken for treatment. Hansing remains hospitalized with a compound ankle fracture. The other car’s driver was not identified. both vehicles were heavily damaged.

Missouri Farm Land Inundated by Floods and Storms

In Missouri and adjacent regions, floods inundated about 100000 acres as the St. Francis river and crevasses threatened farms. Losses are estimated between 1.5 and 2 million dollars with 3000 workers aiding flood relief and attempts to save 25000 acres of protected land. No casualties reported in the levee defense.

Bids for Highway 67 Opened Tuesday Morning

Bids for 0.2 miles of 20 foot concrete on Highway 57 from Plymouth north will be opened Tuesday morning at the county highway commissioner's office in the court house at Sheboygan. Advance information suggests many contractors from across the state and neighboring states will submit bids. Over the past two weeks representatives have been in Sheboygan county inspecting the stretch to be hard surfaced. This is Project 2808, the first construction work in the county board issued schedule.
