Supreme Vice Chancellor Charles S. Davi of Denver wired that he would arrive Wednesday morning to address Grand Lodge. The welcome from Mr. Warner drew applause as local Pythians, including members of old No. 81, expressed warm hospitality and hoped they would visit again soon.
This morning Herbert Chesebro Oscar Schmidt David E Jones and Otto Koch, Past Chancellors 4 of Sheboygan Lodge No 81, were awarded Grand Lodge rank in a formal ceremony.
Wiscon sin and Michigan units of the 32nd division under Maj. W. G. Haan have engaged the front lines on German soil. Engineer and supply train elements aboard the Tuscania, earlier torpedoed off Ireland, are also operating in Germany. Adjutant General Holway praised the soldiers, noting about 18 000 Wisconsin National Guard members are in active service in France.
The common council heard Chief W. Br. Trotter request a 20 percent wage raise for firefighters to offset high living costs and to recruit new personnel. The proposal was referred to the bonds, licenses and salaries committee as several other measures were debated, including park land purchase and maintenance, building repairs, and public property projects. The council discussed salaries for bridge tenders, sewer hose purchases, and safety improvements at local schools and parks.
War Chest reports show Sheboygan Plymouth Sheboygan Falls Adell Random Lake Oostburg and Cedar Grove over the top. The Sheboygan Coal Company and the Sheboygan Bandage Factory reach 100 percent as Awards of Honor are distributed to One Hundred Percenters. City and county committees urge nonpledged residents to visit War Chest headquarters or pledge by mail as canvassing continues.
Rome reports ongoing bitter fighting along the Piave with Italian batteries inflicting heavy Austrian losses. Allied forces win many prisoners and machines guns as ninety two Austrian divisions, about one million troops, push into Italy. Paris notes most troops engaged under Feldmarschall Boroevic.
Grace Lusk, found guilty of murdering Mrs Mary N Roberts, was declared sane by Judge Lueck. Motions for new trials were overruled. sentencing to follow as arguments proceed. She protested through a written statement and confronted the sheriff with anger after a courtroom walk.
Matt Milback a 36 year old resident of Sheboygan died in a city hospital after collapsing on a St Paul street Sunday. The incident was reported by Associated Press. A separate note from Atlantic port dated June 18 states a German submarine and its entire crew were destroyed by an American submarine off the Virginia coast, according to passengers aboard an American steamer who said crew members recounted the battle.
General Pershing reports that on the night of June 18 an American patrol of thirteen men clashed with an ambush of forty Germans near Plcardy. Despite being outnumbered, the Americans broke through the attack and returned, with nearly all bearing wounds.
Seventy six Hill School seniors will receive diplomas Thursday evening at the opera house after the Board of Education ratified the list. The class is noted as one of the largest in Famed area history.
