Kansas City report describes farmers outside Convention Hall blocking entry with a disciplined show. Farms leaders seek peaceful protest while Republicans push ahead with credentials and platform talks amid farm relief debate.
British aviator Captain Frank T. Courtney arrived in Lisbon from Pisa on the first leg of a trans Atlantic flight to the United States. He previously failed an attempt to fly to New York from Plymouth in a seaplane, taking off September 8 and landing near Corunna after weather delays before the air ministry halted the expedition.
The farm bloc pressed for the McNary Haugen plank as sub committee debates tariff duties on agricultural products. The plank was postponed after an hour of talks as farm bloc members pledged to press the issue to the end while administration backers split on extending the Borah tariff and cooperative marketing plans.
Mrs. A Warnecke of 1915 N 11th St ran a week long ad in the Press Classifieds to sell an ice box. After the ad ran for two evenings she sold the ice box for her asking price and praised the Press Classifieds for good results.
The Wisconsin Conservation Commission at La Crosse adopted a resolution to curb private control of lakes and streams. It denounces signs blocking access and threatens to withhold stocking or declare navigable waters as fish and game refuges if the practice continues, to preserve public hunting and fishing rights.
Governor Fred Zimmerman and notable Masons will headline the Saturday ceremonies for the cornerstone laying of the new Masonic temple in Sheboygan. A parade, band, and chorus accompany the event with officials and members of multiple Masonic bodies expected to attend from Wisconsin and beyond. The procession gathers at the present temple, then marches to the new site for the cornerstone rite set for 4 p.m.
After a second medical consultation Col James F Coupal and Lieut Commander Joel T Boone reported Mrs Coolidge improved enough to travel to the Summer White House in Wisconsin. Physicians said her temperature rise across the route to Wisconsin reduced risk of catching cold, and arrangements remain in place for a Monday departure from Washington tonight.
A wind storm of exceptional velocity swept Waushara County injuring Dave Clayton of Wild Rose. Cars overturned, trees uprooted, power lines damaged, and buildings harmed as tourists at a local camp faced danger from about 200 downed trees. The Wild Rose creamery roof and power plant porch were destroyed. Windows and chimneys shattered across the county.
Lieutenant Governor Henry A. Huber of Stoughton won recognition as a delegate from the third district after the credentials committee sustained his seating at the Republican National Convention. Ben Marcus of Muscoda had protested the result following a close defeat amid a brief hearing in the early hours.
A blue overalls clad crowd with hay-seed hats protested Hoover at the Kansas City Republican convention. marchers displayed anti Hoover badges and banners urging not to elect Hoover while police restrained entry to the hall. Ed Bush led the marchers who demanded admission despite being refused entry.
Senator Moses of New Hampshire as permanent chairman slammed the Democratic Party and Tammany Hall in Kansas City. He urged a strong Republican nominee, warned of graft in New York City, and pledged to govern within the constitution with sound economics, aiming for an eight year GOP ascendency. He said the GOP would not support anti constitutional changes and cited amendments 14th 15th and 18th as targets. He asserted Republicans would welcome a fierce opponent and bury him.
