Names and addresses cover streets including Spruce Court Illinois Avenue Kentucky Avenue and 10th Street with entries such as Leo Frank Aleff Yohn Augustin Alvin Anderson Walter Ahreng and Elmer Braeger among others. A warrant has been sworn for the arrest of Dr Arthur Genter on abusive language charges and will be served on his return tonight or Sunday. Patrolman Ed Lorier filed the complaint, and a related warrant had been issued earlier but Judge Bassuener was absent when the case was called.
Washington June 7 The Provost Marshal General Crowder ordered governors to reopen investigations of draft classifications to increase eligible manpower and tighten exemptions. He urged boards to reclassify doubtful cases, set a class 1 week in June, and apply new physical standards. Navy enlistment bans for 1918 registrants remain in effect until numbers are assigned.
Reports from Milan say the German admiralty plans a massive stroke against the Allies with the high seas fleet ready at a moment’s notice. Dispatches claim many German officers have been recalled from Switzerland and leaves suspended.
Sheboygan will host a representative of President Wilson Tuesday afternoon. Luther D. Wishard of the United States Shipping Board visits Vollrath Co to address employees. Wishard, who recently returned from land and France, brings information valuable to the officials and workers of Vollrath Co.
German advocate von Detlev von Reventlow argues submarine operations in the western Atlantic will force the United States to shift its main naval strength to defend the coast. He cites potential torpedoing of American transports and says the campaign aims to disrupt American transport and force a coast defense response. Reports quote German press foreseeing near harbor operations and continued pressure on U S shipping.
Alfred Hoffmann 30 of Plymouth, an employee of Manitowoc Shipbuilding, fell twenty feet into a ship hold. He suffered two skull fractures and was rushed to a hospital where his condition worsened to grave by morning. Hoffmann had been a traveling representative for Sheboygan Chair and resigned from government service.
German and British seaplanes fought a night engagement off Viteland Island. The United seaplane was set afire and sank. Two British planes landed on Dutch territory and their crews were interned.
Unofficial squares show about 23 200 tons of ships were lost in American waters during the week ending June 8 due to German submarines. The week ending June 1 saw around 120 tons destroyed, marking one of the largest ships sunk.
