German submarine patrol off the U S coast reports a permanent blockading fleet built from sailors of the merchant service. U boat 161 and six month provisions suggest extended operations with supplies ferried from sunk ships. Prisoners describe harsh conditions aboard the sub and the capture of a U S flag.
Reports from Atlantic Port June 4 describe 300 passengers rescued by schooner Edward B. Douglas near an inlet, seven men landed on a wharf then moved to coast guard station with food. A second boat carried 28 survivors to shore, and 36 more crew and passengers arrived in two leaky boats nearby.
The military registration for all males turning 21 since June 5, 1917, is set for tomorrow from 7 am to 9 pm in the circuit court room at the county courthouse for the first district and in Plymouth for the second district. Early reporting urged. several mail registrations already received. Names include Ralph Clarenbach, Frederick M. Pantzer, George Kuehl, Arthur Willwock, William W. Wallace, William Pierce, and Frank Casper Greenwald.

Speakers Mrs. Herman Roenitz and City Chairman W A Kailans urged intensive house to house work and distribution of pledge forms and booklets checking factory participation with many firms reporting 58 to 100 percent.
Lewes Delaware June 4 firing off Camp Hemlopen is believed to signal a naval battle between the U boat that sank the Herbert Pratt and pursuing scouting boats. The fight reportedly began seven miles off shore at 6 PM and continued until daybreak. A navy minesweeper in the Delaware capesine district reported the encounter in the same general area as the Herbert Pratt sinking.
New York City will be dark tonight amid fears of air raid or bombardment. Police Commissioner Enright signed the order after a conference with government officials.
Judge Kirwan sustains the jury verdict in Minnie De Bruine v Dr Anthony Voski and Dr John W Heas, awarding 1800 in damages. The document was filed today with Clerk E J Coach.

Twenty three American seamen from the schooners Edna Hattie Dunn and Hauppauge were rescued in New York after being captured by a German submarine off the American coast. Captains Holbrook and Gilmore reported the voyage, bombardments, and eventual release in small boats with bread and water.
Eleven crew from the Edward H. Cole describe two enormous German U boats attacking seventy five miles off Headlandight New Jersey. They saw a battle between submarines and a large steamer, then the Cole blew up after bombs were planted aboard. The crew escaped in small boats and headed for New York as wreckage cluttered the sea.
