Eight others in the car survived with injuries. the accident happened as the party returned from a Manitowoc band concert. Coroner and district attorney investigated. body held pending statements.

Diving Mishap Causes Broken Neck For Man
John M Manthey, son of Mrs Anna Manthey of 1911 N Ninth St Fond du Lac, fractured four cervical vertebrae when he dove head first from a raft at Sandy Beach and struck a sandbar. He was hospitalized at Fond du Lac Hospital with a neck cast, doctors hopeful for recovery barring complications. Manthey, an American Express employee, had gone to the beach for the day and dove after climbing onto a raft, thinking water depth was the same on the other side. He lapsed into unconsciousness after being aided to the surface and pulled from the water. An X ray confirmed the injuries.
