Veterans convention in full swing in Wisconsin encampment

The United Spanish War Veterans Wisconsin department held its twenty sixth annual encampment with multiple resolutions. They urged abolishing excessive pensions machinery and proposed pension scales, by law changes to admit 1902 to 1904 veterans, a $30 monthly pension at age 60 rising to $50 at 80, and endorsed Knutson bill aid for widows and orphans. Congressman Voigt was honored, and events included a lakeview picnic, athletic contests, dances, and floral greetings. Green Bay urged to host next convention.

Wisconsin Republicans plan state convention for U.S. Senate race

At Oshkosh GOP leaders outlined a plan to nominate a conservative candidate for the U S Senate after the La Follette death. Frances McGovern of Milwaukee and Roy Wilcox of Eau Claire announced candidacies, with J N Nittemore of Omro possibly joining. Senator Titus announced a bid for governor in 1926 as county meetings set process in motion.

Police padlock saloons after municipal court convictions

Police ordered padlocking of saloons whose owners were found guilty of possessing intoxicating liquor. City council to decide license suspensions. several listed venues including Empire cafe and Radio Inn were raided after an investigation linked to a steamer death. Officers captured bottles as evidence while owners pleaded guilty or await trial.

Fire roars through Pauley Lumber yard in Lincoln

A blaze originating in the Pauley Lumber Company yards in Lincoln Nebraska swept two square blocks today causing about 150000 dollars in damage. The fire, driven by a strong wind, overwhelmed city fire crews and damaged several homes and small businesses with lumber yard losses around 104000 dollars.

Jury deadlocked in trial of Atlanta prison officials

In Atlanta, eight to four for acquittal, the jury in the case of L. J. Fletcher and Rev. Thomas P. Hayden, former Atlanta penitentiary officials, charged with accepting bribes from wealthy prisoners, reported a deadlock and was ordered to continue deliberations by Judge Ervin.
