A burglar entered the bedroom of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Sherer in Minneapolis on February 21. He used lit matches to feel his way, awakening the sleeping mother only when the bedclothes caught fire. The mother shouted as the fire was extinguished and the baby remained asleep.
Rain and sleet disrupted street cars and elevated trains in Chicago. Telegraph wires came down and railroads reported delays. All mail service was late.
Madison February 20 Milwaukee gains state support for a sane fourth of July. Assemblyman D W Jennings introduces a bill allowing first class cities to set aside up to 5000 dollars yearly for the celebration. Funds may be spent by city officials or a citizen committee. The reform also relaxes contract letting rules for the event.
Sheboygan Mayor Dieckmann was urged by Ford H. MacGregor of the League of Wisconsin Municipalities to protest House bills 106 A and 175 A that would transfer police and fire department control to elected commissioners. The letter notes a hearing next week and urges citizens to protest to Assembly Cities Chairman C. E. Estabrook.

Ernst Kolb a Meeme Wisconsin resident and Civil War veteran died after a long illness. Born October 20 1839 in Weimar Germany he emigrated to America with his family in 1850. He served in the 27th Wisconsin Volunteers and participated in Vicksburg Jenkins Ferry Red River Expedition and Mobile. He leaves seven daughters six sons thirty grandchildren three sisters and a nephew Charles Kolb. Funeral details to be set with Gustavus Wintermeyer Post pallbearers and interment in Meeme cemetery.
