In a county court session Judge Erez faced a delay as Miss Nancy Hanson refused to swear an oath to testify in the State versus Mabel Pooler. After threat of jail for contempt, she accepted an oath, then testified that Mabel is bright overall but weak in arithmetic, aiding the judge’s inquiry into the girl’s school runaways. Saturday teacher Beeckler also testified Mabel is bright and well behaved, and the court took the matter under advisement.
Reports from New Zealand and London confirm Captain Robert F. Scott and parts of his party perished on the South Pole expedition. Mrs Scott sailed for New Zealand unaware of the fate, while Roald Amundsen expressed disbelief and paid tribute to the fallen explorers.

Gilbert R. Gilman, 61, former county board member and Plymouth resident, died at his Reed Street home of heart failure after a period of illness.
