In a tragic St. Nicholas Street scene Charles Hoehnke killed his wife Elinora Stegemeyer Hoehnke and shot himself after a day of tense family strife. The couple’s four children and relatives mourn as doctors battled to save the unborn baby. Police report the revolver was bought that morning. Hoehnke died at St. Nicholas Hospital. Funeral plans for Elinora are announced with services at Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church Saturday crowding out details for the husband’s rites.
Alsa Thompson a 17 year old schoolgirl confessed with a smile to causing the deaths of her twin sisters and a woman. The Federal Court of Appeals in New Orleans upheld the conviction of Dr. Frederick Cook of North Pole fame. He was found guilty in Fort Worth Texas of using the mails to defraud in his oil stock dealings. He had appealed alleging judicial bias but the ruling requires him to begin serving his sentence.
United Press reports the 1925 serum run to Nome concluded with Gunnar Kasson arriving in Nome with the diphtheria serum after a 650 mile trek. Balto the lead dog guided the team through a blizzard as the town faced 27 cases of diphtheria. The race tested man and dogs against extreme cold and wind with the serum now delivered but efficacy pending tests by Dr. Curtis Welch.

An increase of two cents per gallon raises the retail price to 22 cents plus eight cents state tax. The hike was implemented by the Allandc and Galt Refining company in Pennsylvania today.
